In Lussas, winter begins with a hush. The sun rises late, low on the horizon, casting a grazing light across the stone of the Mas. On some mornings a light mist settles over the plateau, concealing and then revealing the volcanic hills, like a curtain drawing slowly open.
It is the season when the Mas becomes a refuge — a house that draws close around those it shelters.
Winter landscapes in Ardèche
The vines rest, the Coiron's paths grow bare, and the silence deepens further still. The basalt hills take on grey and mauve tones under a low sky. On clear days, the higher ridges of Mont Mézenc and the Gerbier de Jonc turn white in the distance, a promise of snow.

The Pont-d'Arc Cavern
When the weather turns cooler, the full-scale replica of the Chauvet cave offers a striking experience whatever the forecast — a constant temperature, cave art 36,000 years old, absolute silence. One of the region's essential visits, less than an hour from the Mas.
Christmas markets and villages in festive mood
Aubenas, Privas and the surrounding villages light up gently from December onward. Christmas markets, mulled wine, local crafts — a warm atmosphere, without the bustle of larger cities.
The Ardèche gorges, the winter version
Emptied of tourists, bathed in a low golden light, the gorges reveal their true character in winter — wild, silent, almost secret.
Snow on the Mézenc and the Gerbier de Jonc
A little over an hour from the Mas, the summits of the Mézenc and the Gerbier de Jonc — source of the Loire — are dusted with snow from the first cold spells. Snowshoes, sledging, or simply taking in a landscape white as far as the eye can see: a day trip that changes the scenery entirely.
Winter inside the Mas
This may be the most beautiful season to discover the Mas from within. The large rooms, designed for summer light, reveal a different quality in winter — enveloping, warm, almost cocoon-like.
